YESTERDAY'S

RESTAURANTS

We began with a big white room, too big for it’s britches, as my father would have said. Way too much light and glare, yet wonderful views of the intercostal waterway, to block with curtains. There was an adjacent room, often requested second best for seating because of the lack of view. We converted both spaces differently addressing each need. The darker room needed expansiveness and light, to offer a cozy space The existing Italian glass chandeliers in the main room were taken apart and re-purposed to remain large enough for their original places, yet offering us enough pieces to create new fixtures for new raised mini-ceilings in this deeper toned room. We painted the room in these medium to dark dusty pink tones, to accentuate the intimacy. The walls and upholstery were repurposed with rose/mauve velvets in both spaces, purposefully adding to the attractive glow of the skin tones on the guests.  Hand painting on the ceiling rafters inspired by art nouveau motifs, extended the look of fresh foliage often used in the space for parties. Cotton mesh curtains were hung from the ceilings by strings of colorful plastic beads.(who could tell they weren’t glass?) in keeping with the exquisite chandeliers.
